Patanjali Yoga Sutra — te hlādaparitāpaphalāḥ puṇyāpuṇyahetutvāt॥2.14॥
ते ह्लादपरितापफलाः पुण्यापुण्यहेतुत्वात् ॥
Good deeds or vicious deeds would cause to ordain pleasurable or painful conditions in three manifestations, namely nature of life, life span and experiences.
We do not get more or less than what we really deserve, but let not the smile on our face disappear ever. The happy people are always happy, not because everything is right in their life. They are happy because of their attitude towards everything in life is right. Having sown a cactus seed, no one would get a mango tree. “As you sow, so you reap” is the awakening buzz word. That means, my today is sum total of what I did yesterday; my tomorrow is sum total of what I do today. Patañjali divides these fruits under three heads namely:
1. The nature of life one gets — human life or any other creature or anything else
2. The life span one will have — short or long or medium
3. The actual experiences — pleasurable or painful or mixture
Bhagavān continues to caution us:
आसुरीं योनिमापन्ना मूढा जन्मनि जन्मनि।
मामप्राप्यैव कौन्तेय ततो यान्त्य्धमां गातिम्॥गीता १६.२०॥
āsurīṁ yonimāpannā mūḍhā janmani janmani.
māmaprāpyaiva kaunteya tato yāntydhamāṁ gātim॥Gītā 16.20॥
These wretched people (doing miserable deeds) are destined to get only demoniac wombs in every life. (This is not the end) They are further reduced to attain miserable conditions and fail to get Me.
Thus Indian philosophy strongly believes in reincarnation.
