Sarvārthataikāgratayoḥ kṣayodayau cittasya samādhi pariṇāmaḥ

By dropping distractions, when the mind focuses, explicitly it is said to give way to samādhi, i.e., absorption.

Patañjali presupposes that concentration is the utmost essential aptitude of sādhaka which can direct him gradually to pious absorption and towards complete freedom, because, distractions bind the mind to the impressions or thoughts and in turn lead to the slavery of the consciousness to the prakṛti. On the other hand, the aptitude of one-pointed awareness leads to mastery and liberation from prakṛti.

यत्रोपरमते चित्तं निरुद्धं योगसेवया।

यत्र चैवात्मनात्मानं पश्यन्नात्मनि तुष्यति॥६.२०॥

yatroparamate cittaṃ niruddhaṃ yogasevayā|

yatra caivātmanātmānaṃ paśyannātmani tuṣyatiGītā 6.20

When the sādhaka is able to control the oscillations of the mind and experiences tranquility with the help of yogābhyāsa, he finds blissful joy in being established in Paramātma, (he is not moved from the ultimate truth).
